Alanna leaned on the old oak tree, resting before she began the intense Shang routine for their hand-to-hand combat. She was used to her routine with Lightning, having been doing it every morning since she first started training. She'd done with heavier swords too, she thought, laying a hand fondly on Lightning's hilt.
The Shang exercises, though, those were still new to her and they still hurt. She'd been practicing every morning since Liam had first taught her, but it wasn't so long ago that she'd first started learning. She felt a pang of loss as she thought of her dead friend and forced herself to stand and begin the exercise, wanting a distraction from her hurt.

Keladry paused after she finished one of her most complex Yamani glaive patterns, panting slightly in the cool morning air. She turned when she heard something rustling nearby, cautiously making her way towards the noise, unsure what to expect in this strange new world. Kel almost dropped her weapon when she saw who it was. "The King's Champion," she murmured softly, almost wondering if she were dreaming. But Alanna looked younger than when she'd last seen her...

Alanna started slowly, with a few of the easier punches and kicks to remind her body what it felt like. She wondered how she could be practically pain free when she did her sword exercises and still have her muscles hurt so much doing something that ought to be similar. She didn't grumble, but only because the motions left her too out of breath to even think about it. She shook sweat out of her eyes and continued with grim determination, unaware of her observer as she led into the more difficult of the Shang exercises.

Keladry watched quietly in fascination as she recognized many of the forms she'd been taught by her Shang masters during her years training as a page. She didn't want to disturb Alanna, but she didn't want Alanna to think she'd been spying on her either... She wasn't entirely sure what to do, so she merely watched for now, content with observing her heroine... and wondering how on earth time worked in this new world.

Alanna finished her routine and struggled for breath. She took a long drink from her water skin and wiped sweat from her forehead. She fanned herself with her tunic and glanced around, noticing her observer for the first time. She studied the tall woman, taken aback when she recognized Tortallian clothes, but excited. She liked it here, but a little taste of home without the exhaustion of traveling back was a beautiful thing. She hesitated, not sure how to introduce herself, before she decided to approach. "Good morning!" she said cheerfully, taking another swig of water.

Keladry watched Alanna carefully, "Good morning...," she replied hesitantly, "Do you remember me?" she asked quietly, wondering if she was truly meeting a younger version of the woman who had helped her out so much in the past.

Alanna frowned, concerned. "Unfortunately, no, I'm sorry. I've met a lot of people on my travels and..." she paused, feeling foolish. "I'm sorry," she repeated, worried she'd offended the woman. "Where did we meet, maybe I'll remember?" she suggested with an apologetic frown.

Keladry shook her head slightly with a grin, "Don't worry about it, but if I may ask a strange sounding question, and please don't be offended, but how old are you?"

"Twenty," Alanna answered. "I know, I'm short, I look younger, I've heard it all before and I don't care." She rolled her eyes. "Who are you, by the way?" she asked.

Keladry couldn't believe it, she'd suspected of course, but this was amazing, "Sorry, of course, I'm Keladry of Mindelan... the girl you helped to gain her shield..." she murmured.

"Great mother goddess, another lady knight?" Alanna exclaimed, excited. "They finally allowed women to join! How many others are there?" she demanded, eager for good news. She had been begging Jon to allow women to join but he'd been stubborn. When he finally relented, no one was brave enough to try. If Keladry had done it, surely others would have followed...

Keladry glanced down, "Uh, for now, there's just me. But more are considering joining now though," she added quickly, not wanting to destroy Alanna's hope completely. Keladry figured she'd leave out the part where she'd been forced into a year's probation for now too.

Alanna frowned. "We're getting there, at least," she sighed. "I'm glad you've done well for yourself, then." She paused. "You have done well for yourself? You don't need anything?"

Keladry shook her head, "No, I don't need anything," she assured Alanna. She had done pretty well for herself, now that she thought about it. She was pretty well respected by her peers and she hadn't let her people die at the hands of Blaine. "I'm just... amazed to meet you... here. And, so young," she told her quietly.
