Word had spread amongst people of a public punishment to be done for a thief who stole from the British Navy. When word got to a pirate captain he thought of this person an ally since they robbed from the Navy. He gathers four of his men and sneaks into the execution site. The guards had a young gypsy woman on a stand with a crier nearby calling out the law of execution for the woman for stealing. The captain goes into the crowd and waits as two of his men sneak a cart under the stand to make a quick escape as two more go around the side to make distractions for the guards. The crier looks back "Pray for forgiveness wretch" he says and takes a hold of the lever to drop her from the hangman.

Esmeralda laughed at him and spit in his face, "Everyone knows you're only covering up for your own incompetence. I have nothing to ask forgiveness for." The crier glared at her and pulled the lever.

As soon as the rope got taught did a shot ring out and a shot cut through the rope and made the woman fall into the cart. A man calls out "Go!" as two men carry the cart. At the stand a man in white cuts down the soldiers as one hops into the cart. He quickly removes his garbs as he says "How in the hell do they wear this stuff?" he asks as he was in a ragged attire with cutlass and flintlock. A real soldier gets in and is about to fire as the man in white reappears and knocks the guy off. He looks over "You alright?" he asks.

Esmeralda looked around in utter confusion, who the hell was this guy? "Other than the fact that I'm supposed to be dead, yeah I guess I'm alright... Who exactly are you?"

He smiles "Captain Edward Kenway, pirate and privateer. Heard of how you stole from the British navy madame and well an enemy of them is a friend of mine" he says. He looks up at two riflemen as he pulls out two flintlock pistols and fires making them fall over. One of the rifles ends up in the cart "Know how to use one?" he asks.

Esmeralda had never seen this loud contraption before and she shook her head, "I can throw knives pretty well, if you have a few to spare. They took all of mine."

Edward smirks as he shows a belt with fifteen knives "I'm a pirate ma'am, we always have spare knives" he says. He hands them to her as they seem to be heading for the port "We can hide out with some people I know" he says. A loud thump is heard as some British people drop into the cart. He draws his swords and starts to fight with them.

Esmeralda quickly joins the fray and slices the throat of one soldier, and deflects the blow from another, "Just so we're clear, you're saving me because I'm a thief?" She turns and throws a knife, burying it into a soldier's chest.

Edward comes up and kicks the man off "Yes I am. I'm a pirate and a privateer so I'm like a thief of the seas" he says. He sees them stop as he hops out and offers a hand as a elderly couple motions for them to come in.

Esmeralda follows him, "Well then, I'm glad you saved me. I'm the best thief you'll ever meet." Esmeralda was blatantly lying, but if this man was going to help her out, she wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Edward leads her inside "But I live by a code that is different then what most thieves, pirates, and privateers live by" he says. The Elderly people's home was clearly falling apart and they didn't look like they had much in terms of funding. Two of the pirates bring in a bag of forty gold and give it to the couple "Steal from the wrong, give to the right" he says.

Esmeralda glanced at him suspiciously, "Really? And the people you steal from never retaliate against the very people you're claiming to help?"

Edward chuckles "They assume 'Oh he's a pirate he has all our gold and guns and cannons and supplies' and they are partially right" he says. He sits down as he removes his hood to show a blonde British man with a goatee "Never did get your name" he says.

Esmeralda shrugged, "You never asked." She examined the building around her and sat down across from him, "So pirates know and socialize with the poor and elderly now?"

Edward shrugs "I do. I help the poor and elderly get back what was stolen from corrupted British army" he says. He looks at her "And to bring higher ups to justice" he says.
