Lonnie found herself on the ground with a splitting headache. Last thing she remembered she was stepping through the portal... where was she? This didn't look like home. Suddenly she heard a low grumble coming from a few yards left of her. She looked quickly and saw that someone or... something was chomping on a dead deer. She had to hold back her own churning stomach when the thing suddenly spotted her. "Oh shit!" she said, backing away quickly. She almost stumbled over a very large, very sharp stick that had most likely fallen from one of the trees that surrounded the area. She picked it up quickly and held it like she would a weapon "I don't want to hurt you!" she said to the slow moving creature. As it got closer it started to claw at her, obviously trying to sink its teeth into her. She quickly lifted the branch above her head and cracked it over the creatures skull. She continued to do so until the creature fell to the ground, dead. She took a deep breath before inching backwards slowly until she ran into something, rather, someone. "Esmeralda?!" she said in shock as she turned around to see the girl behind her "this is NOT what it looks like!" she said, pleading.

Esmeralda reached out and gently rested her hand on Lonnie's arm, "I know it's not, I saw just how vicious that creature was. It sure as hell didn't look like any human I've ever seen." She quickly handed Lonnie one of the knives she always carried with her, "Keep this with you for now. Let's just try to find someplace safe for now."

Lonnie nodded quickly, still coming off of the adrenalin rush she had gotten from killing that creature. She felt horrible about it. She took Esmeralda's hand and slowly started to walk towards town until they suddenly saw a huge horde of those creatures just beyond the hill they were standing on "W... we can't go this way... we have to go into the woods! There has to be something, anything in the woods for us to live in..." she said, a little panicky

Esmeralda gripped Lonnie's hand tightly in an attempt to help herself remain calm, "Y-you're probably right. Do you think they can climb trees? Maybe we could... I don't know... but we sure as hell can't enter that town. You're right about that."

"I... I wouldn't think so I mean, that one barely managed a slow shamble but..." she paused, gathering her thoughts "We can't sleep in a tree, not without any protection at least... we need supplies but we can't get them down there..." she paused again, clearly trying to think up a plan "Okay. That clearly looks like a big city, right? which means there has got to be a suburb around here somewhere! I am betting if we follow this road in the opposite direction we will make it somewhere smaller eventually!"

Esmeralda nodded, "Yes, let's follow this road and see where it leads, maybe there'll be something we can use for food and find some better weapons than these knives." She hugged Lonnie to her briefly to help calm her down, "It'll be alright Lonnie, you and I'll figure a way out of this, together. I won't leave you."

Lonnie took a deep breath and nodded to Esmeralda "O-okay... we can do this, right? At least we have each other! There has to be a place for us somewhere" She said and started to walk hand and hand with Esmeralda down the road quietly.

Esmeralda gently squeezed Lonnie's hand while keeping an eye out for any more of the twisted creatures. She hoped they found a slightly longer range of weapon soon, fighting those things up close made her extremely uncomfortable. "Maybe we can find some other people too. It can't be just us who've made it here."

"I hope so.." she trailed off "I hope we find friendly people..." she bit her lip and looked around, making sure there were no dead around. They walked for awhile before seeing a large green sign that said "Sandy Springs: Two miles" Lonnie smiled and whispered "Yes! I knew we would find something!" It was morning when they started their hike and it was well into the afternoon now "come on baby, we gotta find some shelter before it gets dark" she said waking a little faster

Esmeralda smiled and picked up her pace as well, before realizing the possible consequences of not being able to find someplace to stay. Just the thought of being out in the open at night with those creatures about was enough to motivate her to move faster. She refused to let her panic set in and take over though, but she also couldn't stop her grip on Lonnie's hand from tightening as the thought crossed her mind.

Lonnie held Esmeralda's hand closer, comforting her. They would be okay, she knew they would... they had to be. As they approached town the sun was just starting to set, giving them about two hours to find someplace before dark. There was an obvious culmination of those things towards the middle of town (she could see them from atop the hill they were standing on) So she and Esmeralda headed the opposite direction. There was a few neighborhoods to pick from that didn't seem to be over run by the dead but one of them had a substantially larger building placed at the end of the street "A fire station!" Lonnie whispered in excitement "We just have to make it down that street safely"

Esmeralda looked over where Lonnie was pointing and drew her knife just in case. "If the fire truck has any gas in it, we could use it to go almost anywhere we needed to, even into town to pick up supplies." She kept a tight watch on their surroundings, as they made their way down the street, flinching a bit at the slightest flicker of a shadow in fear of those creatures making another appearance. When they were about halfway to the fire house Esmeralda swore, "Shit!" She drew one of her throwing knives as a group of four came out from the side of a house. "Lonnie, run for it! I'll hold them for as long as I can and join you."

"I'm not leaving you behind!" Lonnie said as she drew the knife Esmeralda gave her. She took the two on the left as Esmeralda took the two on the right. Lonnie quickly stabbed one in the head but was flanked by the other one, she grunted loudly as she kicked the other one to the ground as she removed the knife from her last victim. Quickly, while the creature was still on the ground and disoriented, she took her knife and brought it down hard between the creatures eyes, killing it instantly.

Esmeralda quickly dispatched her first zombie with a strong slice through it's neck resulting in decapitation. She was amazed at her own luck as she kicked the other zombie down and slammed her knife down through it's too soft neck as well, killing it instantly as she severed it's spinal chord. "Alright, let's run for it, just in case there are any others running around."

"Okay!" Lonnie said, flipping around and running beside Esmeralda towards the fire station "We do this together or not at all, okay?!" she said finally "I'm not gonna leave you, I'm not gonna do that!"
